About Fluent Tales
Fluent Tales is a free English-learning podcast for intermediate (B1–B2) learners. Every day, two hosts, Maya and Leo, have a relaxed conversation about a real-life topic, and every episode comes with a full transcript and a breakdown of the most useful vocabulary.
Who it's for
Fluent Tales is for learners who can already get by in English but want to understand natural, everyday conversation: the reactions, idioms, phrasal verbs and small talk that textbooks rarely cover. If you can follow a slow conversation but lose the thread when native speakers talk normally, this is for you.
How to use an episode
- Listen first without reading, and notice how much you understand.
- Read the transcript on the episode page and listen again, following along.
- Study the vocabulary breakdown: each expression has a simple meaning and a new example sentence.
- Answer the question the hosts ask mid-episode in the YouTube comments. Writing is the best practice.
What's in an episode
- A new short episode every day, from one of several recurring categories: work, relationships, money, travel, technology, health, motivation and more.
- One longer 20–30 minute deep dive every Sunday.
- A full transcript, 8–20 vocabulary items with examples, and a short summary on every episode page.
Browse them all on the episode archive.
How Fluent Tales is made
We want to be upfront about this: Maya and Leo are illustrated characters, not real people. Each episode's conversation is written with the help of AI language models, following a fixed set of guidelines: natural B1–B2 English, a single clear topic, and vocabulary that actually appears in the conversation. The voices are generated with AI text-to-speech. Any personal stories the hosts tell are part of the fictional conversation.
Every script goes through automatic quality checks before it's published: length, structure, a complete vocabulary section, and a separate review of whether the dialogue sounds natural, stays on topic and suits the target level. Scripts that fail are rewritten.
If you spot a mistake in an episode, such as an unnatural phrase, a wrong definition or a typo in a transcript, please tell us. Corrections genuinely help.
Who runs it
Fluent Tales is a small, independent project, built and run by an independent developer with an interest in language learning. It's free, supported by advertising and by listeners who choose to buy us a coffee.
